Knee Pain

What are the symptoms of knee pain?

The knee is a fairly stable hinge joint that is involved in just about every weight-bearing task you do throughout the day. When knee pain and dysfunction occur, everything from your leisure life to your work life can be impacted.

Symptoms of knee pain vary based on the type of injury you have, but may include:

  • Knee stiffness, weakness, or instability
  • Swelling of your knee
  • Warmth to the touch or redness
  • Crunching or popping noises
  • Being unable to straighten your knee fully
  • Feeling like your knee is going to give out

Possible Causes for Knee Pain

For as strong as your knees can be, they’re also prone to injury. The stabilizing ligaments inside your knee are particularly susceptible: a torn or injured ACL, MCL, or meniscus is a regular occurrence among athletes who twist, pivot, and turn.

While such stress injuries are a common source of knee pain among younger people, older people tend to suffer from knee injuries related to everyday, degenerative wear and tear. Older people are more likely to experience knee pain stemming from conditions like osteoarthritis, tendonitis, and bursitis. Other reasons for knee pain include:

  • Sprain or Strain
  • Patellofemoral Syndrome (front knee pain)
  • IT Band Syndrome
  • Septic Arthritis (knee infection)
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Gout

Treating Knee Pain

Knee issues vary greatly, and their symptoms are numerous. Dr. Mioni and the staff at Arizona Chiropractic Group & Medical will do a thorough evaluation of your particular condition and formulate a treatment plan that best suits your particular needs.

Having said that, there are treatments that are general, good practices for treating knee pain. They include Massage Therapy which increases the blood supply and lymph circulation around the knee to assist with healing and reducing inflammation. Chiropractic care will realign the spine and pelvis (in the case referred pain is an issue) and offers widespread pain relief.

The focus of treatment is to identify and address the factors contributing to or causing your knee pain and at the same time, provide knee pain relief.

Several treatment options can help relieve chronic knee pain, including:

  • Physical therapy
  • Exercises for strength, flexibility, and balance
  • Injections
  • Cold Laser Therapy
  • Massage therapy
  • Electric Muscle Stimulation
  • Ultrasound therapy

At Arizona Chiropractic Group & Medical, we will diagnose your condition and construct an individualized treatment plan to effectively and quickly get you back to living a pain-free life.
