Auto Injury Care

Unfortunately, many of our patients come to us following an automobile accident or after involvement in a work-related injury. From the very beginning we become deeply involved and fight for their recovery as we would for a friend or family member. We are dedicated to helping our patients regain their mobility and work their way back towards a pain-free life.

The Trauma of an Accident

The days and weeks following a car or work-related accident can be confusing and frustrating. In addition to the physical injuries sustained, you have a multitude of other, new challenges such as dealing with insurance companies and lawyers. Over the last 20 years, Dr. Mioni has compassionately cared for hundreds of accident victims. He speaks both English and Spanish fluently and finds that when people are under a great deal of stress, such as following a traumatic event, they are most comfortable speaking their native language. He knows that it can be a comfort to be able to communicate in the manner most natural to you, and he is grateful to be able to listen in two languages.

Additionally, since he has specialized in caring for accident victims, he is extremely familiar with the procedures and processes of the insurance companies and the accident lawyers. He is often asked to help guide his patients through this complex and frustrating process. And he does so with grace and compassion, for his goal is to see his patients heal, not only physically, but emotionally as well. With 20 years of experience, Dr. Mioni can confidently call himself a Personal Injury Expert.

The Physical Components of an Accident

In most car accidents, the sudden and forceful impact causes the body to move in two opposite directions—hyperflexion/hyperextension or what is known as “whiplash.” Depending on the severity of the impact, the muscles, tendons, and ligaments experience overstretching and tearing. This tearing in the soft tissues of the neck and/or back muscles can cause immediate pain and stiffness. The spinal vertebrae can often misalign and cause pain and loss of motion in the affected bones. At times, the pain does not immediately appear, but it can occur one to four days after, or sometimes even later. In other cases, especially in younger individuals, the pain sensation may only last a few days and then disappear. Regardless of the symptoms, an examination by a Doctor of Chiropractic is necessary to determine the extent of the injury and the appropriate course of treatment.

Even if You Can’t See It – Come See Us!

It is important to know that auto accident injuries affecting the back and neck can occur with or without external, visible injuries. In fact, many of the car accident injury cases we see on a daily basis are without external cuts and scrapes. When this happens, you may not even realize you have been injured until you start experiencing pain, which can be several days after the accident. Don’t wait. Come let us do a full, comprehensive examination.

Back Pain Following an Accident

The neck is not the only area where we see patients with traumatic injuries following an automobile accident. Just as often, it is the back that takes the force of the impact. When your back is severely jarred, it can cause your discs to slip out of place. This is known as a bulging or herniated disc. The disc material can put pressure on nerves and soft tissues, causing lower back pain.

Possible Injuries

Headaches, neck pain, stiffness, and upper back pain can present right away or much later; in many cases, it can take between 24 to 48 hours before the first symptoms of an accident appear. Severe cases can cause light sensitivity, blurry vision, and numbness and tingling in the arms.

Car accident sufferers often face a range of injuries. Common auto accident injuries include:

  • Neck injuries
  • Back injuries
  • Whiplash
  • Concussions
  • Disc Bulges and Herniation
  • Subluxations (misalignment of the vertebrae in the spine)
  • Injured bones in the spine
  • Irritated and damaged nerves
  • Pulled ligaments and muscles in the neck

Whiplash is a Significant Injury

Whiplash injuries need to be taken very seriously. Because symptoms of a whiplash injury can take weeks or months to manifest, it is easy to be fooled into thinking that you are not as injured as you really are. Too often people don’t seek treatment following a car accident because they don’t feel hurt. By far, the most common injury to the neck is a whiplash injury.

Whiplash injuries can range from mild to very severe. Injuries tend to be more significant when the headrest is positioned too low. If the impact was quite severe or the headrest was low, there is the possibility of broken bones and/or tissue damage. It is highly recommended that you see a chiropractor and receive a thorough examination and x-rays. Even if the impact seemed mild, you may have whiplash if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder, upper back, and arm pain
  • Headaches
  • Blurred vision
  • Pain when turning the head
  • Inability to move or turn the head fully
  • Dizziness
  • Tiredness
  • Numbness or tingling in the arms, hands, and fingers
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Depression

Taking Care of Yourself After an Accident

After a full examination of your musculoskeletal car accident injuries, the doctor will formulate your individualized health care plan and set a course for recovery. Some of the available treatments for care include:

  • Chiropractic Adjustments
  • Core Training
  • Massage Therapy
  • Myofascial Release
  • Physical Therapy
  • Trigger Point Therapy
  • PRP Therapy
  • Stem Cell Therapy

Chiropractic adjustments help realign your vertebrae, but it is your back and core muscles that keep your spine stable. Core training seeks to strengthen your back and core muscles so that they are able to adequately support your spine. As your core muscles increase in strength, you will gradually notice a reduction in pain.

Strains, sprains, and muscles soreness respond well to massage therapy. Receiving massages along with your other chiropractic treatments can decrease your healing time by reducing general muscle pain, improving circulation, and helping your muscles release lactic acid.

By utilizing all these techniques, we can heal your auto accident injuries without medication. In many instances, we can help you avoid costly surgeries and invasive procedures with long recovery times.

Multiple Care Therapies and Therapists for You

Auto accidents can cause significant injuries to your neck and back even at low speeds. At Arizona Chiropractic Group & Medical, we treat auto accident injuries of the back and neck, first, with a Medical Evaluation, and then we follow up with Chiropractic Care, Pain Management, Physical Therapy, Massage, Decompression Traction and a multitude of other care options available to us for treating your injuries. Furthermore, we work with Medical Doctors, Physical Therapists, Nurse Practitioners, Physical Assistants, and Accident Psychologists—An entire team of caring individuals whose main focus is getting you back to your pre-injury, pain-free self.

Chiropractic techniques for Injuries in Auto or Work are the safest and most effective there is; the noninvasive Chiropractic treatment allows you to heal naturally and correctly by giving your body the care that is needed to get you back on your feet and back to pre-injury status.

Because we are skilled and experienced in providing care for injury patients, the trained doctors and technicians at Arizona Chiropractic Group & Medical give you the best chance of a normal life after injury.

DYNAROM TESTING

With the latest in evidence-based technology, the process of providing insurers and attorneys with objective, physiologic data is at our fingertips and in your corner. When you have been involved in an accident, you may be in the unfortunate position of having to validate your injuries. Dr. Mioni and Arizona Chiropractic Group & Medical knows this and is able to help you present the proof you need with the DynaROM test.

This patented, wireless technology returns solid, objective physiological data. Whether determining soft tissue injury or tracking patients’ progress, we are proud to have this testing device to deliver the proof needed to justify care.

Simultaneously measuring a range of motion (ROM) and muscle guarding—a critical measure of a patient’s level of pain—by using attached electrodes, the patient moves through various motions, which are graphed over a short period of time.

Hi-Tech Care – Guided Imagery for Injections

Dr. Mioni is proud to offer his patients the peace of mind that comes with guided imagery for injections. The hi-tech, C-arm X-ray machine, Genoray Zen 7000 CR, allows the doctor to see a video in real time, helping him guide the injection.

The C-shaped connecting element allows movement horizontally, vertically and around the swivel axes, so that X-ray images of the patient are produced from almost any angle. What this means to you is that we are able to check anatomical details such as bones and the positioning of instruments in real time, placing the injection in the joint with precision.

Medical Services in the Same Practice

The name of our practice is very deliberate. We are proud to offer medical services in the same location as our chiropractic services. Our Physicians’ Assistant and highly accredited Nurse Practitioner are both available to read test results, provide consultations, review medical records, prescribe muscle relaxers, as well as giving PRP and Stem Cell Injections.

We offer these medical services because we know that injury patients require a higher level of care than preventative and rehabilitative patients. When you’ve been in a car or work accident, it can be difficult to make it to just one appointment. Having to travel to a multitude of offices for your care makes recovery that much more difficult. We want you to get better, fast.
